Introduction

My name is Cody Cannon. I am a menswear designer based in New York City. I have a degree in Menswear Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, class of 2021. During my final year at FIT I participated in the national Joe’s Blackbook design contest and was awarded first place in menswear design. I reach for a reserved aesthetic defined by composition, drape, and detail. It is important to me that design aspires to be timeless in the time of dizzying trend and overconsumption. I want my work to be pieces of a lifetime wardrobe - worn and admired for their cut and craftsmanship long after trends pass.

voice

My designs aim to bend forms of classical menswear to suit a softer, matured masculinity; one that moves beyond classically masculine traits of utilitarianism and cold stoicism without flamboyance or superfluity. I want my garments to imbue the wearer with a sense of creative identity, confidence, and grace. Pieces drape over the body in fluid lines, silhouettes are cut into elegant proportions, and details are select and resonant - confidence does not yell, but speaks in measured tones.

craft

Craftsmanship is paramount. In the era of globalized mass production, clothing has lost its essence as human craft; garments are expendable and defined by trend. Quality craftsmanship reminds the wearer of this lost essence, like handwriting on a manuscript. Passionate craft amplifies design details, allowing minimalism without compromising impact. I have a strong technical foundation from my time at FIT and experience working for a bespoke tailor, and I take great pride in producing the finest possible realization of my designs.

On the winning collection:

“I think it's such a great collection of very real menswear, done with great taste. He seems to have a good sense of fabrics that are realistic, and the way he cuts things and puts them together seems really mature. He has a very clear idea of what this aesthetic would be in a brand.” - Robert Geller
