The following was the first project I designed at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Having recently been enamored by the works of the Bauhaus Masters, the Bauhaus style was a ready source of inspiration for a collection. In particular, the paintings of Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Oskar Schlemmer, and Paul Klee captivated me with their ability to transform two-dimensional shapes and lines to forms and vectors. Through use of color, transparency, and composition the artists create pieces with a palpable sense of kinetic energy and depth. I wanted to translate the compositional, geometric, and color choices of these paintings to the medium of menswear.
